Starting flash... pretty big deal for me

Posted by lilprjitt Jun. 16, 2008 @ 6:10 PM EDT

Well, over the past year ive looked for flash tutorials. Its been pretty ok, because some where decently created. The only problem with all of these tutorials is that they either have too little information, or bombard me with way too much. I'm not a super learning dude. When i like something i try learning it step by step. I dont take one step and turn around or jump into it or whatever. Here's my whole story.

It all started about a year ago when my friend told me about this one cool little animated short. I was dragged to his computer and we saw the Halo Marine Tales movie and it was so awesome to me. I just thought it was so cool. Then after that I would visit the site regularly and would just love all the stuff on there. I would watch almost everything on the front page and would occasionally visit the audio portal. I watched things like 4 swords misadventures, the awesome series, super mario bos Z, and Madness.

Then 3 months later I created my own account on newgrounds. I would visit the flash portal, do my blam and save thing. Do my part for the community. But soon i just stopped rating as much because i got tired of it. But then about 3 months ago after a 4 month dissapearance (except for occasional anonymous visits) i would come and do my whole rating thing again. And since i came back my flash learning experience started.

Ive had flash all this time and expirimented with it for a while. I know a few things but i'm still missing a buttload of crap. I can do minor things like crappy mouth movements, simple motion tweens (the circle moves from here to there), and inserting pictures, audio, and i bought a mic to practice some voice acting for myself.

Unfortunately, I fear that these simple things arent enough to make something suitible for submission OR for practice. So as I looked for tutorials over the past month I still was not able to comprehend the seemingly difficult art of flash animation.

Things I think i need to learn are: actionscript, animation (duh), shading, working with sprites, and getting it to look nice.

To tell the truth im a very artistic person, and my imagination goes wild with ideas that paper and pencil dont cut. Ive had them written down and i just wanna show them to the world. Since i dont have a scanner i cant show off my artwork, and since i have no flash skills i cant really show my work or ideas publically. I really wanna show you guys what ive got but i just feel that i dont have the necessary skills or tools.

If someone happens to stumble along this please lead me in the right path. If anything i would have to do a flash frame by frame which im sure i would suck with. So someone please help me out.
